THIE’s permanent secretariat, based in Hamburg, maintains close contacts with European and international institutions and is a major partner in consultations on all issues affecting Europe’s tea and herbal infusions industry. The multidisciplinary team is composed of lawyers, nutritional scientists, food chemists and assistance.

Dr. Monika Beutgen
Secretary general
Dr. Monika Beutgen has been Secretary general of THIE since its foundation in January 2015; she was also in charge for the former associations European Tea Committee I ETC and European Herbal Infusions Association I EHIA, the predecessors of THIE. Dr. Monika Beutgen is a lawyer by profession. She keeps the association running in line with the agreed objectives of the association, the decisions of the General Assembly and the Executive Board, including all organisation and operation procedures. She represents the organisation externally and advises the membership with regard to legal, technical and scientific issues.
Shirley Costello
Asisstant
Shirley Costello joined THIE as Assistant in May 2019. Her responsibilities are to support the Secretary general and the THIE team in general management of the association, including administration, organisation of meetings and events and relations with members and foreign organisations. Furthermore, she provides assistance to the Executive Board Members and Working Group chairs.
